The site visit checklist: 15 things to check before you book
A site visit is your best chance to judge a project. Take this list with you.

Brochures show the best angles. A site visit shows the truth. Here is what to check.
The location
- Travel the route at the time you would actually commute.
- Check the approach road: width, lighting and drainage.
- Look at what is being built around the site. An open view today may not last.
The construction
- Look at plaster and wall finishes for cracks and uneven surfaces.
- Check ceilings and walls near bathrooms for damp patches.
- Open and close windows and doors. They should move smoothly and seal well.
- Ask which brands are used for pipes, wiring and fittings.
The home itself
- Measure the rooms. Compare the carpet area with the brochure.
- Note where the sun comes in. In Jaipur, west-facing glass gets very hot in summer.
- Check cross ventilation: can air flow through the home?
- Count the plug points and check where the AC and kitchen points are.
The common areas
- Check the lifts, staircases and fire safety equipment.
- Look at parking: is it covered, and how many spaces come with the home?
- Ask how water is supplied and stored, and about power backup.
The paperwork
- Ask for the RERA number, approved plans and the payment schedule, and read them at home before you pay anything.
